A Cherry on the Top
Maybe there is more wisdom in the Irish saying, "don't give cherries to pigs, or advice to fools" than I thought. I've always loved the taste of cherries but growing up in a big family we didn't get them very often. Once on my own sitting down to a big bowl of cherries was almost a religious experience - a soul-satisfying indulgence. Now I can justify cherries as physical therapy; a good way to alleviate joint pain.
Cherries contain anthocyanin which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. A study conducted by the USDA Agricultural Research Service showed eating a steady amount of cherries caused a drop in three inflammation indicators. This is good news for those of us with joint issues or who look for any excuse to eat more cherries.
I think I'll have to add cherries to the shopping list!
