A Beary Special Holiday

It's been a tiring holiday so far at the Williams Sonoma where I work. It's so rewarding to meet and chat with people that are dealing with their food challenges in very positive ways. I love to see their faces light up when I help them solve a problem, teach them a new way technique, or just let them know they aren't alone in their search for wellness through food.  As much as I enjoy this, I'm feeling the strain of the extra hours.  My fatigue is mounting, my fibro is screaming but I've strengthened by the thought that at 5 PM on Wednesday, I'll be heading home to put my feet up. I'll have my turkey in it's brine this evening and won't have much to do till Thursday morning.

Like so many mothers across the country, dreams of a relaxing evening on the couch have been foiled by the plans my children make. I'm not only one in my home that loves to spend time in the kitchen. My son Andrew has developed an incredible talent for cake decorating. He may be the next generation Aces of Cakes - who knows! He gave his first decorating seminar at Williams Sonoma's upper east side store at the age of 13. It was so well received that many of the customers wanted to buy his cakes - for legal reasons that couldn't happen, but it was obvious that he had real talent.  He's continued to play with cakes and fondant whenever his busy school and his First Robotic team activities allow.

He's bWilliams Sonoma Build A Bear Cake Paneen offered a great opportunity to make the cakes that will be displayed in some of the stores here in New York City. Andrew will be 16 next month and has never taken a cooking or baking class. I will have cakes littering the apartment till they are all delivered Friday. So while he'll be doing the actual decorating, I'm sure I'll have to be his assistant!

Check out the cake pan and the videos of the project he'll be working on. My husband has already threatened to take pictures of this task, so look for photo updates!

As for more recipes, please be patient. I've been working on so many that I know you'll enjoy and once my "beary" special house guests move on to their final destinations, I'll be able to concentrate on writing and proof reading more gluten free recipes.

No matter what your plans en"tail", I hope you'll have as a memorable a Holiday as I'm sure my family will!
